That’s great isn’t it or is it.
Could it be that we have been lulled into a false sense of security?
120 years ago, children were put to work at the age of 14. You were a fully grown and developed adult by the age of 18. There was no aged pension, you had to be self-reliant or you didn’t survive. Today we are educated until we are 24, and many never become self-reliant. So that’s good, isn’t it?
Today we have this caring sophisticated society that allows many to live their whole lives without ever becoming self-reliant. Looking into the future we are contemplating a Universal Basic Income where there will be no need for people to look after themselves as the great economic machines driven by artificial intelligence will grow our food, make our clothes and provide more than enough entertainment to keep us amused for life. The only problem is that nobody told our psychology and physiology that AI is taking over. Most of us are still programmed to want to be useful and to make a difference. Quests for the utopian dream haven’t worked out so well to date.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to live a fulfilling useful life. The only catch is that life will require you to push yourself, battle through tough times and fight the natural world.
On the journey, you will buy a house, raise some children and look after yourself in retirement. If you achieve all of that you will be doing better than 80% of those in my generation. But it is achievable, you have plenty of time to achieve all you want.
But here’s the rub, you need to start early, and you need to have a plan. And that’s what The Parallel University is all about, giving you the knowledge and the tools to deliver on your instincts.
